Early Literacy must be taken as a prerequisite to Focus on Phonics.

Focus on Phonics is designed to teach phoneme to grapheme correspondence, rules, spelling generalizations, and syllabication. Focus on Phonics provides teachers with the knowledge and strategies to effectively teach sound-symbol relationship, the rules that govern our language and the explicit, systematic way to instruct.

The required book for this class is included in the cost of the course.

This class will be held in two locations.

On April 21st and 22nd the Focus on Phonics class will be held in the Fincher Student Family Center in the Wista Worthen meeting room. 

  • enter campus from the main entrance on Indian Trail
  • go through the guard tower to check in
  • take a right at the stop sign
  • follow the road curving around the playground of the elementary building
  • take a left at the stop sign
  • the Fincher Student family center is the second building on the left just past the Combee Elementary Complex
  • parking is available in front of the Fincher Student Family Center or along the elementary playground
  • the Wista Worthen room is on the left side of the Spartan Store when you are facing the Spartan Store
On April 28th and 29th the Focus on Phonics class will be held in the East Meeting Room.
